Ebuild for Official 7.8.0 Release Now Available

Slim Devices' Squeezebox

Logitech has released version 7.8.0 of the Logitech Media Server for Squeezebox players. I've updated my Gentoo overlay to include an ebuild for this version -- you can get it from the usual place:;a=summary

This version is compatible with Perl 5.16, and supports 32 and 64-bit installations. OpenRC and systemd are also both supported as the init system.

Logitech Media Server 7.8 pre-release ebuild available -- Perl 5.16 compatible

Slim Devices' Squeezebox

I've pushed a pre-release build of version 7.8 of Logitech Media Server to my layman-accessible overlay now (;a=summary). This is a snapshot of 7.8 as at 5th January 2014, and has been quite stable for me.

Gentoo Logitech Media Server ebuild moving to an overlay

Slim Devices' Squeezebox

I posted this to the 'unix' Logitech Media Server forum in 2012 but, as I've just managed to get access to this blog again(!) I've reproduced the announcement here for the benefit of any travellers coming this way.

I've been maintaining the ebuilds for LMS (and before that Squeezebox Server, and before that SlimServer...) for a few years and I'm now moving the ebuild from the main Portage tree to a new overlay called 'squeezebox' that I maintain. This has little real effect on users of the ebuild (it's currently exactly the same ebuild as the one in the main Portage tree), but mitigates some of the problems I had with that ebuild being in the main tree due to the number of libraries it bundles.

Squeezebox Server 7.5.3 Gentoo ebuild Produced

Slim Devices' Squeezebox

I have produced a Gentoo ebuild for Squeezebox Server 7.5.3. This is a very minor update over the 7.5.2 that was recently released.

You can find it in my GitHub here:

I'm submitting this for inclusion in the official Portage tree today and so it should be available through Portage in a couple of days or so.

Squeezebox Server 7.5.2 Gentoo ebuild Produced

Slim Devices' Squeezebox

I have produced a Gentoo ebuild for Squeezebox Server 7.5.2. This has had minimal testing, but appears to work OK on my test system.

You can find it in my GitHub here:

This ebuild is now committed to the official Gentoo Portage tree. I've not had any feedback on it, which obviously means it's working perfectly for everyone...!

Squeezebox Server 7.4.2 Gentoo ebuild is Progressing Well

Gentoo Logo

Just a quick note to say this ebuild update is progressing well and I hope to have it ready soon.

You can track its progress at the following public git repository:

If you're the adventurous sort you could download that ebuild to a local overlay and try it out.

Squeezebox Server 7.4.x ebuild for Gentoo

Gentoo Logo

Just a quick note to say I'm working on a Gentoo ebuild for Squeezebox Server (as SqueezeCenter is named these days). You can see development of that in Gentoo bug#287257 ( You can also track my development progress in my Github repository at

SqueezeCenter 7.0 Officially Released

Slim Devices' Squeezebox

SqueezeCenter 7.0 (the new name for SlimServer) has now been officially released. I've submitted a new Gentoo ebuild for this release and it should soon be available in the official Portage tree.

I intend to release a non-beta Lazy Search plugin to match this release soon, with a couple of new ideas implemented. In the meantime, however, the current beta release of the plugin available from this site works fine.
